Thank you to everyone who has participated in the ATHENA study. Recruitment is now closed.

Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia. An estimated 460,000 Australians are living with dementia, and almost 1.6 million Australians are involved in the care of patients with dementia.

Are you worried about your memory or thinking skills?

Do you have high blood pressure, or are you at risk of developing it?

Are you 50 – 70 years old, and do you live in New South Wales, Australia?

High blood pressure damages the blood vessels in the brain and is a known risk factor for the development of dementia. It is likely that this risk is highest for individuals who are in midlife (ages 50 – 70).

Our first-of-a-kind study will test whether a new type of blood pressure pill could be used over the long-term to help prevent memory problems, and potentially dementia. The study will run for six weeks, with appointments conducted over the telephone or via videoconference. Any treatment you receive will be free of charge.
